Phase transition and crystal structures of BaZn2Si2O7
Erasable magneto-optical ~MO! recording media are
now widely available because of their high recording density,
information stability and recording/read-out speed and
noncontact writing/read-out mode. However, further exploration
of new materials is still needed because the current
MO materials, i.e., rare earth ~RE!–transition metal amorphous
thin films, are unsatisfactory in terms of chemical stability
and MO effects at short wavelength range.1–3 Consequently,
considerable attention
II. THE POLAR KERR EFFECT
The relations between the observed MO quantities and
the dielectric tensor elements are discussed briefly here for
the analysis of our experimental data. A more extended description
can be found in Refs. 18 and 19.
