Although the textbook is your main source of information in this course, you are encouraged to use other relevant books and journal articles to develop a good understanding of the strategic management process and broaden your knowledge of strategic management. The first part deals with strategy and the strategic management process covered in the first two chapters of the textbook “What Is Strategy And Why Is It Important” and “The Managerial Process Of Crafting And Executing Strategy”. The second part deals with ethics covered in chapter 10 of the textbook “Strategy, Ethics, and Social Responsibility”. As you can see in your study schedule, we start with the first part of this module in week 1 and finish this course with the second part of this module in week 12. Week 1: An overview Before we start talking about the tools and techniques of strategic analysis it is necessary to get a big picture of the strategy and the strategic management process. Objectives The objectives of this session are to: define the terms ‘strategy’ and ‘competitive advantage’; offer a basis for the identification of a company’s particular strategy and examine the role strategy plays in achieving competitive advantage; explore the idea that strategy is partly proactive and partly reactive; appreciate the relationship between a company’s strategy and its business model; study the factors that make strategy a winner; identify the reasons for why crafting and executing strategy are important; appreci |
