考研英语中一个比较难以把握的地方是短文写作，一般是15分。考研英语短文写作或是命题作文；或者给出写作提纲，根据提纲所给的内容来写；或者规定情景、图表，根据所给内容写出文章。一般要求字数不少于120词，内容切题，表达清楚，意义连贯，语言比较规范。从对考研作文的要求来看，考生要掌握一定的词汇量、句型、文章。
必须掌握考研大纲要求的最简单的词汇量。时常用的单词一定要记准，能够准确无误的拼写。对一种汉语意思要会多种英语表达。你可以买一个文曲星、快译通之类的电子词典，写作文时碰到不会的英语表达查出其同义词，记在本上、反复记忆。当然，不可记太多的单词，会准确写出二、三百个常用单词足够。
阅读时碰到好文章、好句子要记下来，反复背记。
