Abstract
Ernest Hemingway (1899-1961)is a famous writer in America in the 2oth century. He is also an international literary celebrity in the world. His life was full of adventures. He took part in World War I and World War II. These wars left him serious wound both in his body and in his mind. He felt disappointed with the world and the fate of the man. Then, he began to write his own experiences and feelings about the world.
The thesis analyzed Hemingway's tragic conceptions in The Old Man and the Sea from different perspectives. Pessimism, the dominating ideological moods in Hemingway's novel, affects the attitude of his protagonist toward life. The character tends to accept catastrophe and defeat with grace and courage. He is endowed with some kind of spirit. In order to fulfill his desires, he manifested the staunch spirit and took positive action against his fate. Though the old man got nothing in material, he gained a spiritual triumph and transcendence. This is of great significance in Hemingway's tragic conception.

厄内斯特.海明威(1899-1961)是美国二十世纪著名作家，在世界文坛上，他享有极高的声誉。他的经历曲折，参加过一战和二战，使他声心遭到创伤，对世界前途感到失望，对人类命运持悲观态度。战争的浩劫和现实的苦闷使他把对人生的感慨赋予笔端。本文从不同分析了海明威的悲剧观在《老人与海》中的体现。悲观主义是该作品中一种主要的思想倾向。受此影响，作品的主人公只能勇敢地承受各种不幸和灾难，为了实现自己的愿望表现出一种不屈不挠的精神，积极地与命运抗争，虽然物质上一无所获，但是获得了一种精神上的胜利。这也是海明威的悲剧中最具积极意义的一面。
