Analysis of data


a) Select the appropriate statistical test to perform the following Statistical Tests. Perform the tests in SPSS. In your own words, briefly explain the significance of reach set of results


(i) Do male and female managers have different levels of stress?
The test variables in this case are Ratio. There are two Independent groups being compared, here; male managers, female managers. We want to know if there is a significant difference between the scores of the males and females.


Test variable:   Ratio/Interval
Purpose Test:   Difference between two groups
Statistical Test:  Independent Sample T-Test


CASE STUDYJob Satisfaction and Stress Levels among Public Service Managers


The purpose of the research project was to assess job satisfaction and stress levels among managers in the public service. In particular to look at the effect of stress levels and other factors on job satisfaction.


Additionally , the researchers were interested in looking at differences between male and female managers’ job satisfaction and stress levels and the differences between junior, middle and senior managers for the same variables.

A sample of 200 managers was randomly sampled for the study from across the public service. A questionnaire was then sent to the 200 managers and approximately 70% of them were returned. This questionnaire will be supplied with this handout. This data was entered in SPSS and can be found in the file Psm.Sav. (each individual group will be assigned there own unique file.)


9.2 ANALYSIS OF DATA


(a) Select the appropriate statistical test to perform the following Statistical Tests. Perform the test in SPSS. In your own words briefly explain the significance of each set of results.
(i) Do male and female managers have different levels of stress?
(ii) Is there a difference between male and female job satisfaction levels?
(iii) Is there a difference between the among of time that male and female managers find to relax?
(iv) Are males and females equally spread across the organization?


(b) How would the researchers assess the relationship between job satisfaction and stress levels. Simply describe the techniques required, there is no need to carry out the analysis.


(c) Suggest three other analyses that may be performed using this data, that may help answer some the re
