1.0 Executive Summary
The year 2009 could be a frustrating one for Toyota. In the middle of December 2009, Ron Medford, the acting head of the U.S. agency that regulates auto safety, had been dispatched to Japan by the Obama administration to run the investigation into Toyota safety problems. According to the BBC News on Feb 28th, 2010, Toyota recalled 4.2million cars in November 2009 due to concerns about the possibility of pedals getting lodged under floor mats, until January 2010, the world’s largest automaker has recalled almost 8 million cars in the US. In addition, Toyota also recalled in Europe and China as well. Negative news about the recall event wide spread swiftly. When facing this news, we cannot help but to wonder what’s wrong with Toyota, the automaker once outpaced General Motors to sell 8.972 million cars and trucks all over the world and titled the world’s largest automaker in 2008 (Marr, 2009)? This report mainly focus on strategy management of Toyota that caused and facing the recall crisis.
